Gabi and Frank

The Gabi and Frank series documents my relationship with my ex-partner and how my upbringing did and still does affect it to this day. Frank and I agree to collaborate on this body of work. With respect for his privacy, his face isn’t in the image. I photograph self-portraits with Frank whenever I feel a shift between us. Whether it is positive or negative or after deep discussions like death, not wanting kids or our goals in life. I want this work to show how vulnerable we can be but still feel empowered in where we are in life. The other reason I’ve been photographing us is that there is hardly any positive representation in entertainment when it comes to brown couples.

In contrast to the expected negative depictions in media, I’m showing the world that we can love each other as an honest representation of a brown couple
